Reach the Beach 2020 Finale -Portland Bicycling Club

Reach the Beach 2020 Finale

From October 3 to October 10

The last week of Reach the Beach training will be October 3-10, and the final days for MY RIDE will be October 10-11.

  1. Training Ride Option: Over the Hills to North Plains. Saturday, October 3, leaving at 9:00 AM, Ann Morrow will facilitate a training ride starting from the REI in Hillsboro at 2235 NE Allie Avenue.    There are hills, but nothing horrific, and the route is 36 miles. It is recommended that you not park in front of REI, but you can park in the multilevel parking lot. Bring at least one water bottle and supplies; however, there will an opportunity to replenish your food and water in North Plains. Starting at the REI parking lot, in the streets of Tanasbourne we will head northwest, climb some hills, skirt around Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club and pull into North Plains for a break. Then we will explore beautiful rural Washington County a bit more before heading back to REI. This ride can be shortened by using NW Glencoe Road to get back to Wren Road then NW Evergreen.
  2. MY RIDE Option: Pioneer Century™ 55-Mile Route.    This route starts in Canby at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds, but start anywhere in the vicinity. Note the map is reused from a past event ride, so the rest stops are not there now. However, the rest stop locations may still be good places to pull off the road and take a break with supplies you carry with you. You will go through Molalla, so you can find food and water and hopefully a bathroom. Sawtell Road is a good little climb but offers a spectacular view of the Mt. Hood Territory at the summit. Use caution on the descent.

NOTE: These options are simply that, recommendations of routes you might use for an RTB training ride or for your official RTB MY RIDE.  You are on your own.  Any of the training rides may be used for your final MY RIDE as well, depending on the mileage you are wanting to achieve.
