Central Oregon Ménage à Trois

From Bud Rice and Arden Shelton, Ride Leaders

We are offering three rides in Central Oregon – three rides from three cities in three days: June 23, June 24, and June 25.

If you are looking for accommodations for this event, Bend is between Sisters and Prineville. Sisters is a 20-mile drive west of Bend, and Prineville is 40 miles east of Bend. If you prefer to camp, Tumalo State Park is 5 miles west of Bend. You can reserve camp space at state parks exactly 6 months early. State park campgrounds fill up very quickly after that 6 month time. Bud and Arden are staying at the Bend Riverside which shares a fence line with the park where the Bend ride starts.

Friday, June 23: Distances: 56, 51, 46, and 40 miles. Leaves from Village Green Park at Fir and Jefferson in Sisters, Oregon. Cruise past farms, ranches, and lodge pole pine and Ponderosa pine forests. Take photo stops at the Metolius River headwaters and Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. The lunch stop is at the Camp Sherman General Store at picnic tables on the grass under the Ponderosa pines. Non-group ride. Level C.  Ride leaders Bud Rice, 971-244-2209 or [email protected] and Arden Shelton 503-709-7252.

Saturday, June 24: Distance: 40 to 43 miles. Leaves from Stryler Park at 4th and Elm in Prineville. This is an out and back that parallels the Crooked River. It runs past farms, ranches, and a series of BLM campgrounds. At the furthest extent is the dam that forms Prineville Reservoir. Bring something to eat for a stop at the last campground, Big Bend, at the 20 mile mark. This also is the only spot for water on the route. There is nowhere to stop for food on the route. Non-group ride. Level C. Ride leaders Bud Rice, 971-244-2209 or [email protected], and Arden Shelton, 503-709-7252.

Sunday, June 25: Leaves from Pioneer Park at Wall and Portland at the north end of old downtown Bend. Ride through mostly low traffic, country roads north of Bend. Cross the Deschutes River twice on back roads and cruise past an alpaca farm. Lunch is at the food cart pod in Tumalo. Non-group ride. Level C. Ride leaders Bud Rice, 971-244-2209 or [email protected], and Arden Shelton, 503-709-7252.
