Central Oregon Ménage à Trois

From Bud Rice and Arden Shelton, Ride Leaders

We are offering three rides in Central Oregon – three rides from three cities in three days: June 14, June 15, and June 16.

If you are looking for accommodations for this event, Bend is between Sisters and Prineville. Sisters is a 20-mile drive west of Bend, and Prineville is 38 miles east of Bend. If you prefer to camp, Tumalo State Park is 5 miles west of Bend. You can reserve camp space at state parks exactly 6 months early. State park campgrounds fill up very quickly after that 6 month time. Bud and Arden are staying at the Bend Riverside which shares a fence line with the park where the Bend ride starts.

Friday, June 14: Prineville, Crooked River Canyon Out and Back. Distances 40 to 43 miles.  Leaves at 10:30AM from Stryler Park at 4th and Elm in Prineville. This is an out and back that parallels the Crooked River. It runs past farms, ranches, and a series of BLM campgrounds and day use areas on a very low traffic road. At the furthest extent is the dam that forms Prineville Reservoir.  Bring something to eat for a stop at the last campground, Big Bend, at the 20 mile mark. This is also the only spot for water on the route. There is nowhere to stop for food on the route. Maps and signup at the start. Non-group ride. Level C. Pace 13/15 mph. Ride leaders Arden Shelton, 503-709-7252 and Bud Rice, 503-667-0683.

Saturday, June 15: Camp Sherman, Wizard Falls, Metolius River Loop. Distances 60, 53, 45, and 35 miles. Leaves at 10:00 a.m. from Village Green Park at Fir and Jefferson in Sisters, Oregon. Cruise past ranches and through Ponderosa pine forests. Stop for photo ops at the headwaters of the Metolius River and the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. The lunch stop is at the Camp Sherman General Store at picnic tables on the grass under the Ponderosa pines. Distances can be altered at the start or at the middle of the ride. Maps and signup at the start. Non-group ride. Level C.  Pace 13/15 MPH. Ride leaders Arden Shelton, 503-709-7252 and Bud Rice, 503-667-0683.

Sunday, June 16: The Ride North of Bend. Distance 35 miles. Leaves at 10:00 a.m. from Pioneer Park at Wall and Portland at the north end of Bends old downtown. Ride through mostly low traffic, country roads north of Bend. Cross the Deschutes River twice on back roads and ride by and alpaca farm. Lunch is at the food cart pod in the town of Tumalo. There are spectacular views of the Three sisters, Mt. Bachelor, and Broken Top on this route. Maps and signup at the start. Non-group ride. Level C. Pace 13/15 mph. Ride leaders Arden Shelton,
