January 2022 Top Talk

We’ve had a good year of cycling, so let the festivities begin!!!  The club’s Annual Awards Banquet is scheduled for Thursday, February 3, 2022! Socializing begins at 5:00 p.m., and dinner starts at 6:00 p.m., with awards to follow. Enjoy a casual evening of fun with your cycling buddies:  witness the club awards presentations; collect your mileage pins, mugs, and plaques; and, most importantly, see who the recipient of the coveted Old Fart award will be!

The banquet will be held at the Monarch Hotel, with convenient onsite parking. The buffet table and food line will be replaced by individual plated dinners that you select at the time you register; there are four options at the same price, $30 each, tip included. Please log in and purchase your tickets early from the club’s online store so we can get an accurate head count for planning and room rental arrangements: https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/product/banquet/. Contact [email protected] if you need help signing up. Registration closes Saturday, January 22, at 9:00 p.m..

As in restaurants, masks will be required unless you’re eating or drinking. Much will be the same. The no-host bar will return by popular demand. And if you’re accustomed to not winning a random door prize, that will be the same as well. Nobody else will win a door prize, saving attendees from having to exchange items for ones that fit and saving the club reserves $2,300.

There is other news for the club: our in-person club meetings are planned to resume, starting Thursday, January 6, at All Saints Episcopal Church on Woodstock. As with the banquet, masks will be required wear, and there will be no snack table (so eat before you leave home). The club is also planning to air the meeting on Zoom for those who prefer to participate remotely.

The club picnic was an enjoyable time together, and I look forward to seeing you all again in person…this time with or without bicycling clothes!
