January 2024 Top Talk -Portland Bicycling Club

January 2024 Top Talk

Greetings! Ann Morrow here, your newly elected president. I have been a Portland Bicycling Club member since 1992. I try to lead a few rides each month but can’t compete with Bud Rice or Chuck Dorr!

I ran for the office of president because of my history with the club. I feel great loyalty to it and maintain belief in the membership – the cyclists, the people.

Our club is 53 years old this year. It remains a vital, active, contributing organization in the Portland metro community. I was extremely proud of all of you recently when we discussed the upcoming Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic. People stepped up to volunteer. They offered suggestions and practical solutions. They stood strong. And our own Pioneer Century® is flourishing. Our club continues to have bike rides almost every day. It’s a good club, and I am proud to be a member.

As I contemplated running for president, I realized I didn’t want to be just a placeholder. I wanted to own this role (I was also president in 2010, 2011 and 2012) and embrace it with thoughtfulness and strength. Our club brochure says on the front: ALL PEOPLE, ALL BIKES. I am really proud of our club for taking that stance and being inclusive. I think it’s that perspective that helps our club remain vital and growing. I hope to build on that foundation.

I’m looking forward to a busy and fun year of cycling with you. Thank you for this opportunity.

Ann Morrow, President
