November 2022 Top Talk

It seems odd to be writing the November column today. October is half over, and I spent the last several hours trimming brush from the bike lanes leading to Frenchman’s Bar in 80º sunny weather. Where are the rains, the fenders, the long sleeves and tights? Two weeks left until November and I have yet to get muddy or have numb fingers or toes. In a word, it’s GREAT!

Everyone should be saving two dates on their schedules.  ✎  The first is Thursday, February 2, 2023. Not because it’s Groundhog Day (which it is), but because it’s the date of our 2022 Awards Banquet! We’ll be at the Monarch Hotel again. Since a pall was cast on our 50th anniversary by the pandemic, we’ll be ringing in 1971 this year to celebrate the club’s founding. If you’ve saved your favorite outfits from 1971 (and can still get into them), bring them. Your favorite records are also welcome, provided someone can find a turntable in an antiques shop.

The other date to save is Saturday, June 3, 2023. The first Saturday in June will once again be the date of our 45th Pioneer Century, which will have a 100-mile option. Expect to see it in the online ride calendar soon. The route has not been finalized, but we’ll again be the guests of Columbia Distributing in Canby for our start and finish lines.

Finally, should there be an abrupt transition to normal November weather, stay warm, dry, and safe on the road! I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the banquet!
