Achievements & Awards

Have you ever overheard riders ask each other, “How close are you to earning your mug?” Curious what that means?

Let me explain. When you sign in at the beginning of a ride, you provide your name and club member number. The club statistician keeps track of all members, which club rides they’ve been on, and their total miles ridden with the club. At the annual club banquet every February, those who rode 2000 miles and more the previous year are entitled to receive a mug with our club name. Also printed on the mug are the number of miles ridden that year in increments of 1000, starting with 2000. If you miss the banquet, you can still pick up your mug by making other arrangements. But you should try to come to the banquet – it’s fun!

What if you get caught up in the excitement but just can’t make your mug goal this year? Well, don’t worry. If you rode 500 miles or more, you’ll receive a pin with a unique bicycle-themed design. Those who earn their mug will also get a pin.

There’s an even higher level of award. When you reach 10,000 lifetime club miles, you are entitled to receive a plaque. And again every 10,000 miles thereafter.

If you want to see how close you are to your goal of a pin, mug, or plaque, you can log in to the club website. Under your account, access at the top right, select “Rider Mileage.”

Earning a trophy vessel by reaching a mileage goal may not be everyone’s cup/mug of tea/coffee. But it is a fun incentive for some, a way to reach a fitness goal with solid proof of success. Plus, it’s something to talk about on those long miles of riding, and to subtly show off at work or while serving house guests.

How close are you to earning your mug this year?
