April 2023 Top Talk

As president of the Portland Bicycling Club, I want to take a moment to talk about our membership and how we can work together to increase it.

We all know that cycling is a fantastic way to stay active, explore the outdoors, and meet new people. As a club, we offer a supportive community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for cycling. We offer a variety of rides, events, and activities that cater to riders of all levels, from beginners to seasoned pros.

However, we can always do more to attract new members and grow our community. Here are a few things we can all do:

  1. Spread the word: Talk to your friends, family, and coworkers about the club, and encourage them to join. Share our website and social media pages on your own social media accounts.
  2. Invite a friend: Bring a friend along on a club ride or event. This is a great way to introduce them to the club and show them the benefits of joining.
  3. Volunteer: Volunteer your time to help with club events and rides. This not only helps the club run smoothly but also gives you an opportunity to meet new people and promote the club.
  4. Be a mentor: Offer to mentor new riders and help them develop their skills and confidence on the bike. This is a great way to give back to the community and help the club grow.
  5. Attend club events: Attend club events and rides regularly. This helps build a sense of community within the club and shows new members that we are an active and engaged group.

By working together and taking these small steps, we can all help prospective members find us; and we can build a stronger, more vibrant cycling community in Portland. Let’s continue to share our love of cycling and encourage others to join us on the road!
