Volunteering -Portland Bicycling Club

Volunteering

$5,000 to Banks-Vernonia State Trail…

$1,500 to Community Cycling Center…

…and so on for a total of $12,000 donated to our cycling community. I don’t know about you, but these donations help me feel like a real part of a larger cause, a tangible sense of involvement to improve the quality of our little corner of the world. If you were present at the March club meeting, then you were able to witness the passing of the check to the recipients representing the Banks-Vernonia State Trail. How does that make YOU feel?

The funds for our largesse did not come easily. We (meaning you and me) worked hard for that money in 2022 by helping at the resurrected Pioneer Metric Century® and by helping approximately 8,000 Seattle to Portland cyclists finish their epic ride at Holladay Park in July. We EARNED the money and didn’t spend it on ourselves. We chose to share.

Now, in 2023, we are on the threshold of money-making season! Don’t be an 80 percenter! You know the old 20/80 adage: 20% of any group’s members do all the work while the other 80% don’t. When those 20% burn out – and they will – where will PBC be? By all means, ride the rides if that’s what you want to do this year. No guilt! Otherwise, please sign up and help our fellow cyclists enjoy some good rides just as other volunteers have no doubt done for you in the past.

Thank you!
