February 2026 Top Talk

To misquote Alfred, Lord Tennyson: “In the spring, a young (and older) man’s (and woman’s) fancy lightly turns to…cycling!”

The weather outside on a Monday afternoon in January certainly evokes that passage, as it is 58° with sunny skies. This brings to mind all of the activities that are ahead of us as members of the Portland Bicycling Club!

Besides the daily rides, we will be featuring four special events of varying complexity throughout the year: the awards banquet, the Pioneer Century®, the Seattle to Portland Finish Line, and the club picnic. These events are made possible by the many individuals who volunteer their time and services. The planning for the banquet on February 5 is well under way, and we are currently asking members to volunteer for a variety of tasks to make the Pioneer Century® and STP Finish Line successful.  ✎  It is these two events which fund the operation of our club, including our charitable donations, maintaining our website, and subsidizing our banquet and picnic. Volunteering presents a wonderful opportunity to get to know your fellow club members better and to deepen friendships. And the more volunteers, the more fun and the lighter the workload!

I hope to see you at the banquet!
