January 2026 Top Talk

It’s Groundhog Day!

Even though it’s just January and the actual traditional observance is on February 2nd, I believe that for most club members those words will elicit memories of the 1993 Bill Murray movie of that name.  As you might recall, Murray’s character awakened to the same Groundhog Day for a string of days so that he could repeat his February 2nd activities until he finally got them right.

Those were the sentiments I experienced as I stepped off secure ground at our December club member meeting to enter the vacuum of our club’s presidency for the fifth time (whatever happened to term limits?).  Hopefully, 2026 will have a good ending for our club.

I want to thank Ann Morrow for a wonderful job of leading the PBC for the past two years. Even though she decided not to run for re-election and will be enjoying a well-deserved break, she has already provided me with a month-by-month schedule of what we should be doing. She never stops contributing! Following her template, any one of us could be a successful club president. Which raises the question, why aren’t more of you wanting to take the lead of the board’s paceline? As Ann has expressed, it would be great to have new blood with new ideas and perspectives at the board meetings, rather than having the same people play musical chairs at the helm year after year.

I do appreciate those members who have volunteered to continue their service to the club in 2026, including: workhorse and Membership Secretary Dave McQuery; Members at Large Michelle Kirsch, Scott Poindexter, Ron Stein, and Bob Glascock; perpetual Road Captain Rob Schroeder; and Treasurer-for-life Corey Eng. Also, Quick Releases Editor, artist-in-residence, and volunteer recruiter, Lynn Blanchard. And in addition to Ann, I want to thank outgoing Recording Secretary Cindy Bernert-Coppola, Co-Road Captain Todd McCollum, and Member at Large Kim Hutchinson for all their contributions to the club.

We also are fortunate to have some excellent new board members, including new Road Captain Joel Loh, Recording-Secretary-to-be Diane Kerns. and my new co-conspirator Vice President Steve Price.

I hope to see all of you at the annual banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn Clackamas (formerly Monarch Hotel) on Thursday, February 5th (if we ever get past February 2nd). And now I need to start planning the route for our New Year’s Day Ride…it’s Groundhog Day!

Doug Myers, President
