Idaho Tour 2020

We will be returning to northern Idaho in 2020 to ride two world-class, rails-to-trails bike paths: the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes and the Route of the Hiawatha. Dates are Monday through Friday, August 3-7.

Day 1:  You drive to Wallace, Idaho, on Monday, August 3.

Day 2:  On Tuesday, August 4, we ride 50 miles down to Harrison, Idaho, right on the bank of Lake Coeur d’Alene, where we spend two nights. Most of this route follows the Coeur d’Alene River. This is a really flat route.

Day 3:  On Wednesday we ride 35 miles, round trip to the west end of the trail to the town of Plummer, for a lunch stop. This is where we encounter the only hill on the trip.

Day 4:  On Thursday we retrace our route back to Wallace. The Coeur d’Alene travels through farms, wetlands, a series of lakes, pasture, forests, and spends most of Wednesday right on the lake. You should be on the lookout for moose, elk, deer, coyotes, and a variety of waterfowl. On the 2019 trip everyone had a quality moose sighting.

Day 5:  On Friday you either head home or ride the optional Route of the Hiawatha, for an additional 17 to 34 miles. The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes is a completely paved bike path. The Hiawatha is gravel. There are some options for additional mileage, at the east end of the trail, on Tuesday or on Thursday.

This is not a camping trip; you spend your four nights in motels. You do need to be able to carry enough on your bike to survive, in hot weather country, for the two nights we spend in Harrison. The trip is designed for two people per room and is limited to 30 because the one motel in Harrison only has 15 rooms. You need to sign up with your own roommate. I don’t match singles up anymore due to so many snoring complaints. Cost for the trip is $305.00 per person.
