Exploring Orcas Island

Description

Please read the Covid protocols before attending the ride.

We should arrive at Orcas Island at 9:15 a.m. if the ferries are on schedule. The shortest ride is from the ferry landing to Eastsound Village (about 8.5 miles) where there are numerous restaurants. A detour at the start is to check out Deer Harbor. If you plan to climb Mt. Constitution, you will want to go past Eastsound Village and directly there to give yourself enough time for the return to the ferry. Orcas is considered to be the most difficult island to ride.  Mt. Constitution is 2,409 feet above sea level. The climb is about 5 miles with some at 15% grade. Riding to Mt. Constitution, up it, and back will be about 41 miles with 4,868 feet of elevation gain. Other points to check out are Deer Harbor, Enchanted Forest Road, Moran State Park, and Doe Bay. Sign in online and record your estimated mileage. If it changes, you can go back into your signup up to a week later and change it by clicking on the mileage, changing it, and hitting return on your keyboard.
