West Hills Roller Coaster -Portland Bicycling Club

West Hills Roller Coaster

Description

On-line sign-in.

Once again the Twin Tunnels map has been added to this ride. According to local TV news, the tunnels may open before this date. If they open then we won’t consider Twin Tunnels and the only value of the map will be for riders, that didn’t take advantage of being with us for that route, to look at it as see what they missed. Route will be decided at the start.

Ride cancellations are possible October through February due to unsafe road conditions. This ride may be cancelled due to rain. Please check this posting on the morning of the ride before attending.

Come build strength or see something new by mixing the West Hills into your riding schedule. Each week we choose one of three low traffic routes varying from 19 miles/2000 feet of gain to 22 miles/2500 feet of gain or an unmapped route that we affectionately refer to as the Kiddy Coaster, which is similar to the shorter route previously noted, but with less severe climbs. We'll stay together enough that you won’t have to navigate thru all the turns. The ride starts at the west end of the Highway 26 bike path (near the Hwy 26/217 interchange), rolls up and down through the West Hills, and makes a stop to take in the views from Council Crest. The ride has a bunch of fun (and steep) “ups” that will challenge you, and “downs” that will leave you feeling like a kid again. E-bikes are welcome – bring a fully charged battery! Optional coffee stop near the end of the ride, so bring water and nutrition to get you over the hills.

Please read the Covid protocols before attending the ride. https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/protocols/
