Leif Erickson – Saltzman – Skyline Gravel Ride -Portland Bicycling Club

Leif Erickson – Saltzman – Skyline Gravel Ride

Description

This is a short & scenic loop that climbs from NW Portland into Forest Park. The first half includes about 1,300’ of sustained climbing, with much of the route on gravel (Leif Erickson Drive & Saltzman Rd). Recommend using a mountain, hybrid, or gravel bike – not ideal for road bikes with skinny tires. Pavement resumes at Skyline Blvd where we'll turn left (south), and eventually descend via Thompson and Cornell Roads back to NW Portland. Safety Notes: Leif Erickson is narrow with many blind corners and lots of bike & pedestrian traffic. Riders should plan to ride single file most of the time, including on Skyline Blvd (& we’ll use the adjacent bike path where available). Depending on traffic conditions we may detour around one or both of the Cornell Rd tunnels via the pedestrian paths along their north sides. Coffee stop is at St Honore in NW Portland at/near end of ride. Sign-in will be with the ride leaders at the start.

Please read the Covid protocols before attending the ride: https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/protocols/
