Gravel Ride – Bacona Backroads (1st half/Banks Start)

Description

Please read the Covid protocols before attending the ride.
https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/protocols/

This is an introduction to gravel riding ride. Definitely a real gravel ride but not tons of climbing or miles. Come out to Banks for a fun 22 mile loop with just enough climbing with approximately 2,000 feet of elevation gain, and beautiful gravel roads to make it interesting.

Note:
This is an early season ride. If there is light rain we’ll still do this ride but if there is a downpour then the ride will be canceled. If in doubt, please check back on this page to make sure the ride is still on.

Gravel Bike:
You do need a real gravel bike or mountain bike for this ride, barely. Much of the trail is well packed gravel. I ride with 40 mm wide tires but you could probably ride 35 mm on this tour.

Maps:
Since gravel roads are usually unmarked, paper maps and cue sheets will NOT work and will not be provided. I encourage everyone to use the RideWithGPS on your smart phone for directions while riding. (Note that the free version of RideWithGPS is adequate for PBC rides.) Provided you don’t ride off ahead of the group, I’ll make sure no one gets lost.
