Leave Wallowa Lake State Park, ride to Ollokot U.S. Forest Camp. Two very challenging hills, where you will climb to over 6,000’ (total elevation gain of about 3,000’). Compensating for this are a couple of steep downhills with an elevation loss of about 3,600’. Ollokot is on the left side of the road right after you cross the bridge over the Imnaha River. Campfires almost certainly will NOT be allowed, though if they are, wood is plentiful and there are fire rings at each campsite. I recommend finding a site near the vault toilets. No running water, no showers, no flush toilet. Water is available from a well near the campground entrance, but note the caveat posted there. The sign claims the water is safe to drink. That may be, but it is wretched looking (think iced tea) and smells worse. I recommend getting water from the river (access is just back across the bridge) and either filtering or boiling the water.

Pace: Whatever suits you. Probably average 8-10 mph for the day.
