Dixie Mountain – Gravel -Portland Bicycling Club

Dixie Mountain – Gravel

Description

Please read the Covid protocols before attending the ride.
https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/protocols/

This is one of a series of introductory gravel rides. If you have fitness but are new to gravel, then this might be a good ride for you. At 32 miles and 2,000+ feet of climbing this isn’t an easy ride, but it is scenic and we’ll regroup regularly and, hopefully, not lose anyone in the wilderness.

The Dixie mountain ride is a VERY popular gravel ride. Popular because it is close to town, nice range of gravels and far enough to get in a good workout. The route has a steady climb up then some more climbing/rollers on Dixie mountain road followed by a nice long descent on Pumpkin. Mostly gravel except for start/finish.

Water: Sorry, no water stops, coffee shops or bakeries on this ride (and yet it is a PBC ride).

Gravel Bike: You do need a real gravel bike or mtn bike for this ride. I ride with 40 mm wide tires. More experienced riders can get by with narrower tires.

Per club rules, I’ll bring printed cue sheets but honestly with unmarked gravel roads these aren’t much use. Much better if you use your smart phone and the RideWithGPS link. I’ll make sure no one takes a wrong turn.

Pace: 13 - 15 mph.
