Pioneer Century®: Ride or Volunteer!
submitted by Ann Morrow, Club Member
Yikes! It’s May already, and our big event, the PIONEER CENTURY, is coming up fast!
The Pioneer Century, Portland Bicycling Club’s own event ride, is on Saturday, June 13. Go to our web page, pull down the events menu and see for yourself.
We don’t have an official coordinator, but Doug Myers, Scott Diamond, Alan Mevis, Joel Loh and I are working together to pull this off. We’re getting sponsors, volunteers, and, yes, RIDERS.
There will be last-minute craziness, but with our great team in place as the “wagon masters” (think Pioneer, Oregon Trail, Mount Hood Territory), no one will be left to die on the side of the trail. We’ve got this.
Your job, as a PBC member, is to support the event.
Ride: Bring your friends. Promote the ride to every rider you know or see. Inform yourself about the event so you share our excitement and can “sell” it to other riders with various abilities. Use social media. Tell your spin class friends.
Volunteer: As I write this, there are still some volunteer slots available. Go to SignUpGenius and see what is left.
Please think about volunteering for our club’s major event. To be sure, all volunteer positions that would allow you to volunteer AND ride have been snatched up.
This is how we raise money to support our activities. It’s a wonderful ride and a good way to meet others and celebrate the beauty of where we live and ride at the end of the Oregon Trail. And please don’t forget to thank your volunteers along the route!
