Save the Dates!

Save those dates.

What’s that? Why save those dates? Don’t you trust me?

Alright… Thursday, December 4, 2025, is our usual club member meeting, 7:00 PM. Remember, we are at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, 11100 NE Skidmore Street, in Portland. December’s meeting will have some unique components for the holiday season!

1. GEAR SWAP: Members are encouraged to bring in cycling gear (e.g., a bicycle, bike parts, equipment, apparel, anything bike-related) that you no longer want or use to trade/give/sell to fellow club members. It’s very informal.

  • Items can be anything from a bicycle to a pair of socks.
  • If you are a buyer, bring cash so you can make change and/or purchase items
  • If you are a seller, find a table and lay out your items there for members to come and browse through; mark your items with a price/size etc., to help buyers decide.

2. TREATS: Members are also encouraged to bring in a holiday treat for the enjoyment of all.

  • Treats may be sweet or savory. No rules.
  • There will be a table for shared refreshments. PBC will provide beverages, cups, plates, and napkins.

3. CHARITY GIVING: Finally, Joan Cullen & Dave Ek have, for the past many years, organized a charitable contribution drive for SnowCap to allow PBC members to easily share food, clothing (coats, gloves, and socks are popular) or simply donate cash/check. (Every dollar you give in December will be matched by the KMR Group Foundation up to $10,000, so your gift goes twice as far!) Seek out Joan & Dave at the meeting to give what you can. For more details, go to PBC’s Annual SnowCap Donation Drive.

All of this makes for a fun and social evening. Come and join in!

Our next club meeting, the first of the new year, will be on Thursday, January 8, 2026. You should be aware that club meetings are always the first Thursday of the month. Always, that is, until 2026 when the first Thursday of January is New Year’s Day. The board spent hours on this topic, weighing the pros and cons, conducting surveys, creating spreadsheets, consulting with AI, and concluded that since we didn’t want to go to a bike club meeting on January 1, you probably wouldn’t either. So, we moved the meeting to the second Thursday of the month, January 8.

The other date, Thursday, February 5, 2026, will be our annual club banquet. This is an event that celebrates the previous year of club activities by recognizing all members who have reached club mileage milestones, and special members. So, we will be reminiscing about 2025 in February.

All members who completed 500 club miles or more in 2025 will receive a custom PBC lapel pin. All members who completed 2,000 club miles or more in 2025 will receive a custom PBC coffee mug. In addition, members who have reached lifetime club mileage milestones will receive a plaque.

The evening begins with a no-host bar and socializing. Dinner will be served, although it has not yet been determined if family-style or buffet. The banquet provides another chance to meet and talk to whomever else is at your table. Then, awards and raffle prizes will be handed out, and kind words said about many of our friends. If you are new to the club, it’s a great way to get to know people a bit better.

Dress as you please. Some people love to dress up. Others may want to ride their bikes to the banquet and so will be dressed in cycling attire. Anything is acceptable. This is the Northwest, it’s a bicycle club; we just want you to come, and we don’t care what clothes you have on!

The banquet will be at the Hilton Garden Inn Clackamas, formerly known as the Monarch Hotel, near Clackamas Town Center. Members pay for their own meals but at a reduced rate because PBC will subsidize partial cost of each meal. More information will be forthcoming.

Of importance right now is to send in award nominations so the evening will truly be a recognition of all our friends who serve our club so diligently. Go to Send Award Nominations for 2025 for criteria and where and when to send your nominations.
