It’s time to celebrate! Personally, I intend to celebrate many things, including our Portland Bicycling Club having rides again. Live club meetings will resume in the near future. Our bike club has existed for 50 years! I am once again enjoying the riding, the camaraderie, the bonds of cycling.
There is never a club meeting in August, and we typically have a picnic instead. This year the picnic will be held Sunday, August 22. Celebrating coming off COVID-19 in 2021, we plan not only to have our annual outdoor celebration of summer and cycling but to take this opportunity to recognize the fact that PWTC/PBC has been serving the Portland metro area for 50 years.
Prior to the all-important meal there will be a family ride and at least one other ride offering a faster, longer option. See the ride calendar for details. Both rides will start at Marine Park.
The club will provide sandwich fixings and beverages. We will have a covered picnic area with some picnic tables, but you are encouraged to bring folding chairs. We are asking members to supplement the meal with sides or desserts. Rumor has it there will be a cake to commemorate the 50th Anniversary part of the celebration. ✎

Directions: The park is off SR 14 along the Columbia River. From I-5 take Exit 1 and drive east. Stay right and take Exit 1 again to get off to SE Columbia Way . Turn right off the exit toward the Columbia River. Left after driving under the Railroad tracks and at the traffic light to get on Columbia Way. About 1 mile later there is a Y in the road and you should go slightly left to the parking lot on the right. If that lot is full there is another lot on the west side of the park. This is where the morning rides will start as well. Similarly, from the Glen Jackson Bridge, take the 1st exit off the bridge to SR 14 and Vancouver City Center. Take Exit 1 to Grand and SE Columbia Way. Turn left at the end of the exit onto Columbia House Blvd. Drive past the shopping center (right) and merge right to drive under the highway and railroad tracks. Left on Columbia Way.
