West Hills Roller Coaster-Cornell Twin Tunnels -Portland Bicycling Club

West Hills Roller Coaster-Cornell Twin Tunnels

Description

This is a special edition of Roller Coaster and is unmapped. Similar distance and elevation gain to the mapped rides, but with the thrill of riding a bit of Cornell while the tunnels are closed to cars and Cornell is fairly quiet. We’ll have some Skyline for those that want to be around more cars, so there’s something for everyone. This is a Group(ish) ride in that it will be kind of a regroup, but with extra care to avoid dropping someone.

On-line sign-in.

Please read the Covid protocols before attending the ride.

Ride cancellations are possible October through February due to unsafe road conditions. This ride may be cancelled due to rain. Please check this posting on the morning of the ride before attending.

Come build strength or see something new by mixing the West Hills into your riding schedule. Each week we choose one of two low traffic routes (19 miles/2000 feet of gain, or 22 miles/2500 feet of gain) and then stay together enough that you won’t have to navigate thru all the turns. Both routes start at the west end of the Highway 26 bike path (near the Hwy 26/217 interchange), roll up and down through the West Hills, and make a stop to take in the views from Council Crest. The ride is a bunch of fun (& steep) “ups” that will challenge you, and “downs” that will leave you feeling like a kid again. E-bikes are welcome – bring a fully charged battery! Optional coffee stop near the end of the ride, so bring water and nutrition to get you over the hills.
