Tumalo State Park Camping Weekend – The Tumalo, Redmond Loop -Portland Bicycling Club

Tumalo State Park Camping Weekend – The Tumalo, Redmond Loop

Description

This ride leaves at from campsite #34 at Tumalo State Park, 5 miles NW of Bend, OR. Ride north toward Redmond on roads west of the Deschutes River and return on roads east of the river. Ride through farms , ranches, and grass and scrub land out and back. There is a snack stop near Redmond. Pace 14/16 mph. Tumalo is small and is the only park that I use that does not have water and electricity at every campsite. There are some electric/water sites in the camp. This park will fill up very quickly for a summer weekend. Campsites can be reserved exactly 9 months in advance so if you are arriving on Thursday, July 18 you can reserve space starting on October 18. Headquarters for this event will be at campsite 34. Fridays ride starts at the park and circles Bend with a lunch stop in downtown Bend. Saturdays ride starts in Sisters and goes up to Camp Sherman and the headwaters of the Metolius River. On Sunday we start in the park and head up to Redmond on the west side of the Deschutes River and return on the east side of the river. You can make reservations at oregonstateparks.org or at 1-800 452-5687. If you are not a camper the park is only 5 miles from Bend which has many motels.
