Timothy Lake: The Back Way -Portland Bicycling Club

Timothy Lake: The Back Way

Description

This ride starts, rather than turns around, at Ripplebrook Ranger Station/Camp Store in the Mt. Hood National Forest. It is from Jim Moore's book 75 classic rides and used to be a Wheelmen favorite. 16 miles of climbing provide a dramatic view of Mt. Hood from the High Rocks Lookout. A nice descent takes us to Little Crater Lake which features a sky blue pool created by an artesian spring in a natural deep maar depression. From there some rolling climbs take us to a spectacular descent to Clackamas River road and another great descent back to Ripplebrook. 5,000 feet of total climbing and worth the effort. Lunch after the ride at Harmony Bakery in Estacada. Bring plenty of water and snacks as no food is available on the ride.
