The Triple Crown – Epic Journey Over Portland’s Highest Peaks
Description
Travel thru several levels of cultural strata as we leave from Sellwood's "no you go" community, up thru Riverview Cemetery (people dying to get in there) and then meander thru residential streets (million dollar homes) arriving at Stonehenge Tower. Brief stop for pictures and then it's off and over to Council Crest to view the various snowcaps that dot the landscape. Down a paved path we encounter Hewitt Dr which takes us across Hwy 26 (at Sylvan) and down to Highland Rd where we climb to Hoyt Arboretum and then down a little known road to SW Burnside where we cross and climb to Pittock Mansion, our 3rd and final "Crown", to view the entire city and points beyond. Down thru residential streets of NW Portland we find ourselves taking NW Johnson thru the Pearl District, avoiding streets with light rail tracks to end on the Portland Waterfront. We now take the long glide home via the East Esplanade, stopping at either The Little River Café in RiverPlace Marina or the Elephant Deli at the Tillicum Crossing bridge. Heading south we experience the newly completed bike path from the OHSU Arial Tram to the Spaghetti Factory and a hop, skip, and gear change back to Selwood.
This ride has an 2,300 ft elevation gain and all types of bikes are welcome including trikes. However if you have no experience in climbing hills on a non-Ebike or you have not ridden for a while this ride perhaps is not for you. However, there will be no non-EBike riders left behind. This will be more of a happy-go-lucky group ride as opposed to a foaming-at-mouth Peloton. Have spare tube just in case.
Bathrooms at Council Crest, Hoyt Arboretum, Pittock Mansion, café stop, and Willamette Park. We will vary from route should immediate need for bathroom be required.
