STP Training Ride #7 — Lunch in Vernonia

Description

Continuing our STP Training Ride series with another middle distance ride on the Banks-Vernonia Trail. Lunch at any of several restaurants in beautiful downtown Vernonia or just pack a lunch. Main stop in Vernonia will be The Black Iron Grill at 831 Bridge Street.

Pace is listed as “intermediate” meaning 13-15 mph on the flat before the hill, slowing to 8-10 from there to the high point. After some short, challenging switchbacks, we can coast at 15-16 into town. Riders can definitely make up some time on the long descent on the way back. Exercise great care on the descent both going and coming back. We can meet other riders, hikers, even horses. There are a couple of tricky corners and a few driveways. In addition, the pavement has deteriorated in some places, and some of the bridge approaches on the Vernonia side are in bad shape.

Regroup at Stub Stewart Park and the Black Iron Grill on the first leg and at Stub Stewart Park on the way back.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow for sign-up/check-in.
