STP Training Ride #5–Burnt Bridge Trail from Wilshire Park
Description
You do not need to be a PBC member, or even training for STP. This ride is open to anyone who wants to get ready for the next edition of the famous Seattle-to-Portland bike ride (July 11-12 this year) or just get ready for the cycling season. On-line signup is required. Non-members can sign up on line too. When we are on level ground, with good pavement and no wind we will be traveling at 13-15 mph, which is a pace that should get you comfortably through the STP in two days.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow for sign-up/check-in. Cue sheets will be available if requested in advance. Light rain is OK, heavy rain will shorten the ride.
The Portland Bicycling Club has used this ride for a long time. We will mostly follow the traditional route that has some hills—notably the approach to the I-205 bike path and the hill on NE 105th as we return to Portland.
I intend for this to be a group ride, but if some riders want to go faster and know the route, I would treat that part as a non-group ride. The faster riders may proceed at their own pace. The first potty stop will be at a small park at approximately mile 13, then a rest and coffee break at Larson’s Bakery.
On the STP, you will need to ride on consecutive days, so you should follow this up with another comparable ride as soon as possible.
