Oregon Randonneurs: Netflix and Trill(ium) 200K – GRAVEL
Description
Earlier this month at the club member meeting, Michael Powell Parich from Oregon Randonneurs, a long‑distance, self‑supported cycling club, was the guest presenter. He explained that randonneuring is non‑competitive, camaraderie‑based endurance cycling. Oregon Randonneurs is the local chapter of Randonneurs USA (“RUSA”), which sanctions timed, long‑distance events known as brevets. Randonneuring emphasizes personal challenge and community rather than racing; each distance has both a minimum and a maximum completion time, and riders who finish within that window are official finishers. All bicycles must be human‑powered.
For this event ride, registration in advance is required because . . .
1) the rider must also be a member of RUSA. To join/renew: https://rusa.org/pages/memberservices
2) a registration form must be completed by midnight 10/14/2026: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfHRcUk-lhLq0SZxUqwGs18eusuzZBpFuLjR1yuj6YCCq_O8Q/viewform
3) a waiver of liability must be signed: https://rusa.org/sites/default/files/2024-10/RUSAWaiver2%2005.15.2024_0_0%20Fillable.pdf
Check-in time is from 6:00-6:55 AM, at which time a registration fee of $5 CASH is payable. There is only one route: From SE Washington Street & SE 102nd Avenue to Trillium Lake and back. 79% paved / 21% unpaved. Elevation gain 7,674 feet. You will have 13:30 to complete the route. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/55582538
In addition to an ASTM, CPSC or Snell approved helmet, you will need lights and reflectors. Other than that, you will only need a desire to ride your bicycle. If the idea of a timed endurance ride with supportive fellow cyclists appeals to you, come ride with us and experience what randonneuring is all about. This will be my first one – so, come try it with me.
