Hell of the North Plains Gravel -Portland Bicycling Club

Hell of the North Plains Gravel

This ride has been canceled!

Description

Hey look, a mellow ride! The classic Hell Of The North Plains route, in "standard” guise. 43 miles with a merciful 3600 feet of climbing. 50/50 gravel/pavement mix. Let’s meet up at Jessie Mays Community Park - nice parking lot with a portaloo, it’s only a couple of blocks east of the “official” route start.

Distance: 43 miles, 3600 feet of elevation

The Gravel Boilerplate: This is NOT a road ride. A gravel bike or hardtail mountain bike is a must. I ride 42’s, skilled riders can do it on 35’s. Come with your sense of adventure along with everything you need to be self-sufficient in the way of water (bring plenty), food/snacks (bring plenty), tools and spares. You must have the route loaded into your GPS device or phone - visualize finding yourself alone in the boonies with a flat, Murphy’s Law loves this sort of stuff. We will regroup at the tops of big climbs or at major turns etc. While the pace is listed as brisk it will be challenging. Email me with any questions.

Pace: Will be "brisk", but as this is a gravel ride, we won't be riding 15-17 mph as the road metric indicates.

Ride will move to Saturday if rain threatens. Keep an eye on the calendar.

Do not come if you are not vaccinated for COVID-19.

Please read the Covid protocols before attending the ride. https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/protocols
