Summer Multi-Day Rides

I am planning some summer multi-day rides and wanted to give you an opportunity to save some dates if you want to join me. I continue to work on getting them on the calendar (Pioneer and QR are taking my attention!) but I want you to start planning if you are interested!
1. Central Oregon: I am planning 3 days of riding July 17, 18 and 19. That’s the weekend after STP and the weekend before Ride Around Clark County. Day 1: Crooked River out of Prineville as Bud has done, about 41 miles. Day 2: Sun River to Twin Lakes and back, about 48 miles. Day 3: Still in the planning stages but I’m thinking of a ride around Bend, maybe including slogging up Pilot Butte – about 20 miles total. I plan to stay in a motel but you can camp or whatever suits you. Sleep where you want and then, like any other club ride, go to the start location as indicated on the Ride Calendar. Easy peasy, but in Central Oregon.
2. San Juan Islands: September 9, 10 and 11. I have reserved a family campground at Lakedale Resort (360-378-2350) out of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. The club has stayed there before but they no longer have the big fields to camp in. I reserved a “family campsite” which holds 8 people. Right now I have 7 people committed to joining me. I will reserve more as needed. So please let me know ASAP, so I can accommodate all those interested. Then you will pay me your share. The sites are $320 for 4 nights. $364.10 (includes fees and taxes) ÷ 8 = $45.53 each. Of course, you can rent your own space at Lakedale or book a room at their Lodge or a Yurt, or drive up in your RV or whatever. Or stay in Friday Harbor. We can have some people leave their cars in Anacortes and help pay for drivers to carry other people’s gear on the ferry. The family campsites only accommodate 2 vehicles.
Ride schedule: Day 1: ride around San Juan Island. Day 2: Lopez Island. Day 3: Orcas Island. These are rides that you can do on your own or with friends. I will provide maps and some information, or you can hang with me, the person who always misses the lavender farm and the lavender ice cream on San Juan Island.
Logistics: Note that you will need a full day for travel each way, so the dates listed are ONLY the riding days. Also, you need to reserve a ferry passage. I will probably take the 12:00 noon ferry and arrive at about 1:10 to set up camp on Tuesday, September 8. I will probably take the 10:55 a.m. ferry from Friday Harbor on Saturday, September 12. If you are staying in my campground and want me to carry your camping stuff with me while you ride your bike over, let me know and you can help pay my ferry fare. You will then need to book a bike passage on the same ferries I am on (ferry schedule here). Others can do the same. More on that later, but you can carpool with someone and/or drive up, leave your car in Anacortes and ride your bike.
More information later, but I am excited and hope some of you will share these summer adventures with me. Before we go we will have a meeting, probably via Zoom, to go over your questions about the San Juans.
