Reach the Beach: Thanks to the PBC Major Players

By Ann Morrow

Although Reach the Beach was back in May, a quick shout-out to the major players for PBC is in order. First of all, Michelle Kirsch, Member-at-Large, stepped up to lead a training ride series. That was a huge commitment of 10 weeks, offering a ride every weekend with increasing mileage and culminating with a century so riders felt prepared to ride to the beach. We partner with the American Lung Association, and they very much appreciated Michelle doing this on behalf of PBC and ALA.

Reach the Beach is a charity ride, so participants must raise money to donate to ALA in addition to paying to ride. Donations can be solicited individually, but PBC formed a team and jointly raised money for ALA. As Daniel Payne noted in his article about Reach the Beach last month, the PBC team raised almost $10,000 and came 3rd in the team fundraising efforts. Greg Patton and Daniel Payne were the co-captains of the PBC Team.

On the day of the event, which you may remember was cool and drippy, Michelle Kirsch and Greg Patton served as PBC ride leaders so our club members could earn club mileage for their ride.

You can see how Reach the Beach is one of those “It Takes a Village” efforts. We want to thank the above-mentioned folks who worked very hard to not only prepare for their own Reach the Beach experience, but included others so that many people could have a good ride and raise money for an important charity.
