Member Memories: BZZZzzzzzz…RSVP
The Ride from Seattle to Vancouver and Party (RSVP) was a wonderful adventure that started with lots of different training rides under different temperatures.
When we started the actual ride, the sunrise greeted a whole crowd of cyclists embarking from Seattle on the quest to pedal to Bellingham for the day to then end the next day in Vancouver, BC. Police and volunteers were greeting us at street crossings, providing a sense of safety. Bike and helmet lights were blinking, trails were enriched by the aroma of ripe berries, and the air felt fresh and pleasant.
Several times while riding, I felt as if I was surrounded by a beehive! The bicycle chains were moving in harmony and producing a bzzzzz sound. Everyone, one way or another, saying “Good morning,” “Passing on your left,” “Hi,” was encouraging each other to reach goals and dreams; to discover new territories; to face various hills, some short and some others that served as reminders to be patient, focused, confident, and relaxed. Nature was constantly offering messages to take some joy home! Reach the top and breathe! ✎
I felt very fortunate to have the support of our club members and ride leaders who led various rides to prepare for this journey! Huge appreciation for Adrian, Khaliyah’s husband, for his support transporting our bags and bicycles, and having delicious chicken sandwiches, pineapple and oranges (among other fruits), and drinks available for us at rest stops!
The RSVP official rest stops were rich in sweets, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, an assortment of bars, fruits, water, Gatorade, and pickle juice! In some areas, for example, Arlington, we were lucky with the presence of a Farmers Market where you could get a cup of delicious coffee. In Lynden, you could get some parfait and donate to a local cause. And at the top of one of the many hills, you could indulge with a cup or two of cold pink lemonade!
I was in awe seeing Mt. Vernon and the North Shore Mountains from my saddle. Their magnificent presence served me as an inspiration to keep going and to enjoy the moment.
The immense sense of care received by PBC teammates and their relatives, as well as the Cascade Bicycle Club, made it possible to have a PBC representation crossing borders with adventures without limits!
