Seattle to Portland: July 12-13
You can probably imagine that hosting 6,000+ riders across the finish line into Portland takes a lot of work behind the scenes. That’s where members like you come in. If you are new to PBC, you are also welcome to volunteer; we will provide training and instruction for your position, and it’s a good way to get to know other PBC members. We have 79% of the volunteers we need to manage the Finish Line at Holladay Park in Portland, but that means we still need 21%. We need 18 volunteers to fill the positions in the park and 4 volunteers for the essential positions at the storage unit listed below:
SATURDAY/SUNDAY
• Return Bus Transportation: 1 volunteer
• Finish Line Safety: 11 volunteers
• Bike Corral: 6 volunteers
STORAGE UNIT
• Friday: 2 loading volunteers; Monday 1 unloading volunteer
• Friday/Saturday/Sunday/Monday: 1 van driver ✎
The most difficult volunteer (or couple) to find is the van driver. This person is needed for a few short hours Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. If this is you, you rent the van on Friday, but the club will pay for it – it’s not a donation. You drive the van to the storage unit, and the loading team loads the van. Then you drive the van home and park it overnight. Saturday morning, you drive the van to Holladay Park where the van will be unloaded, and then you’re done for the day. Sunday evening, after the event is over, pick up the already loaded van at Holladay Park, drive it home and park it overnight. On Monday morning, you drive the van to the storage unit to be unloaded by the unloading team, and then return the rental. It’s an easy enough job but must be done by one person (or couple) for insurance purposes. The club will pay for your breakfast or lunch each day, and the closer you live to Holladay Park, the better – less mileage.
All volunteers for STP will receive a colorful commemorative T-shirt to identify them as volunteers. For each shift worked on Saturday and Sunday, you will be given a food voucher to redeem at one of the many food vendors in the park. On Friday and Monday, volunteers will be reimbursed for their meals since food trucks won’t be available on those days. Also, there will be a traditional pizza party on Monday, July 7, for all volunteers to meet each other and their team leaders, and pick up T-shirts.
Signing up online is available at SignUpGenius. It’s organized by columns, starting on the left. Everything that occurs on Friday is listed first. Then, it’s sorted by location, in alphabetical order. Once you find the day you want, look for the time slot in the third column, as you scroll down in search of the ideal position. Let me know if you have questions about navigating SignUpGenius. Or I can sign you up, if you prefer. For more information, contact me at [email protected].
