Columbia River Gorge Rides
There are some construction projects in the Columbia River Gorge you will want to know about as you plan your upcoming bicycling routes.
Multnomah Falls: Historic Columbia River Highway east of the Historic Lodge remains closed for viaduct repairs until later this spring. The 100-year-old elevated highway structure needs restoration and repairs. Crews recently paved the viaduct and installed new supportive rebar beneath the surface. The goal is to maintain the historic appearance, colors, and texture. ✎
Viento State Park to Mitchell Point: Work continues to close the gap in the state trail. The 0.7-mile gap in the trail will get treatment after a temporary, pedestrian-only path has served as a stopgap. That will no longer be accessible during construction. Once completed the state trail will have nearly 10 miles of continuous, car-free, ADA-accessible trail for people walking, biking, and rolling between Wyeth State Park and Mitchell Point Tunnel.
Sandy River Delta: A multi-use path is being built north of Jordan Road this spring. The new path will connect to the existing pedestrian and bicycle tunnel beneath I-84 to the Sandy River Delta recreational area known as Thousand Acres.
General Maintenance: The Historic Highway is closed from Larch Mountain Road to Vista House for hazardous tree removal caused by the December rainstorm. Work is scheduled to take place during daylight hours; however, the highway will remain closed nights and weekends. This stretch of road will be closed for about three weeks and is expected to re-open in the middle of March.
