Your Club at Work

PBC MERCH: Be sure and keep an eye on the club store. We have T-shirts – limited sizes – and should soon have some jerseys. A jersey order has been placed for savvy club shoppers, and there will be a few extras in various, random sizes. Check the “Store” on our PBC website.

EVENT RIDES APPROVED FOR CLUB MILEAGE: Your board met and approved the following non-club rides which will earn you PBC mileage:

Count Date Non-Club Event Ride PBC Ride Leader
1 April 28 Monster Cookie Ann Morrow
2 May 18 Reach the Beach Mark Detrick & Cary Fisher
3 June 15 Gorge Ride Dick Weber
4 June 22 Tour de Blast Mark Barnes
5 July 27 Ride Around Clark County (RACC) Dick Weber
6 August 24-25 Ride from Seattle to Vancouver BC and Party (RSVP) Scott Israel
7 September 15 Harvest Century Kathleen Hellem

IF you participate in any of the above:

  1. You must pay any fees and sign any waivers provided by the hosting organization.
  2. Follow rules of the road as determined by the hosting organization.
  3. Please wear your PBC jersey or vest and represent our club favorably.
  4. Sign in with PBC online or find the ride leader at the ride or text/call/e-mail after the ride with your name, PBC member number and miles ridden if you want mileage credit.

If there is a ride you would like to see on the list, it’s not too late. The cap is ten rides so there are three spots still available. They must meet the criteria (Non-Club Event Rides for Club Mileage), and you must submit them early enough to allow members to sign up and take advantage of early sign-up discounts.

INTERSTATE-5 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT: PBC member Joel Loh will be adding a cyclist’s perspective to a workgroup forming to address the I-5 bridge construction and how it pertains to walkers/bikers/transit. Oregon Walks, 40-mile Loop Land Trust, The Street Trust, and other transportation advocates    are preparing for the open comments and planning discussions with ODOT. PBC also provided a connection to Vancouver Bicycle Club, and hopefully they can also send a representative, so both sides of the river are represented.

RSVP: As part of our contract with Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle for STP (Seattle to Portland), we negotiated a few years back for two RSVP registrations. RSVP is RIDE from SEATTLE to VANCOUVER and PARTY (Vancouver BC not WA). It’s a two-day ride, not unlike STP,  ✎  and your representatives from PBC (then Portland Wheelmen Touring Club) thought we should get a little bonus from Cascade for a ride in which we were not involved with any planning. Some fun times for a couple of club members! Each year we raffle off these two tickets. I held the raffle at the banquet this year because the earlier riders get going on planning the better. Especially since you need a passport or enhanced driver license to get in and out of Canada. Additionally, the banquet is an annual event that draws the most people – other than the picnic but the picnic is way too late to have the raffle. Anyway (finally arriving at the point), our lucky winners for the 2024 RSVP are Scott Israel and Linnea Nelson! In 2023 our RSVP winners chose not to participate in the ride because of heavy wildfire smoke. The ride did take place, but Cascade allowed riders to opt out. So, Kim Allen and Kathleen Hellem will also be riding this year. Join in as a paying customer and share the fun and partying with these four club members. Go to RSVP and check it out. And as you may have read above, you will even get club mileage!
