Pedals & Pints Festival Cancellation -Portland Bicycling Club

Pedals & Pints Festival Cancellation

On May 1, 2020, the committee planning the 2020 Portland Bicycling Club Pedals & Pints Festival held a Zoom meeting and decided to cancel the inaugural 2020 PBC Pedals & Pints Festival until next year, 2021.

I wish to thank the 2020 committee, which has done so much work on this. The members were Eric Hendricks, Chip Kyle, John Francis, Kathleen Hellem, Cindy Bernert-Coppola, Pat McManus, Mark Klein, and me.

Mark Klein, in a letter to our beneficiary partner, Community Cycling Center (CCC), sums up succinctly our reasoning.

“Our organizing committee met yesterday to discuss the event in light of the current shelter-in-place recommendations and what is happening in Oregon with other organized events. While we have planned the event for late September, we do not have any idea what the business and social distancing guidelines will be. Currently PBOT is not issuing event permits and has no idea when they will commence doing so.

As this event is important to the PBC and to our partner/sponsor Hair of the Dog and our beneficiary, CCC, we felt it was essential to stage a successful event. We feel that with the current climate and the shortened lead time, the prudent action is to defer the event to 2021 when hopefully we can stage it with no social limitations. Thus, we have made the decision to postpone the event to 2021. Our committee will meet towards the end of 2020 to assess the current situation and reschedule the event in 2021.”

Our committee anticipates we will meet again sometime in the October/November timeframe to plan next year’s event. If you are interested in volunteering, let me know via email at [email protected].
