Reach the Beach Training Ride Series Open to All
A long-time favorite event ride is Reach the Beach. The route has been tweaked for 2025, no longer finishing in Pacific City and no longer finishing in Astoria. It’s been reworked a bit, so you will reach the beach of the ocean once again – not a river! For many, many years our club has led a training ride series trotting out a succession of rides starting in February/March and leading up to the May Reach the Beach charity event. We work with American Lung Association, and they try to direct their participants to us for the help they need to prepare for the big day.
Ronda McKenzie and Cary Fisher will co-lead the training series this year. Watch for those rides to begin in early March each Sunday until May 11. The training rides start shorter and easier, and soon develop into longer and more difficult rides to prepare not only club members but anyone interested in riding Reach the Beach. ✎ Note that participants in these training rides need not be planning to do Reach the Beach. These are FREE club rides on the club ride calendar and anyone can join, members and non-members alike. We encourage you to venture out on these training rides and help those who are less skilled or able. Additionally, this series can serve you as training for ANY long-distance ride you have coming up in 2025. They are not exclusive to RTB.
However, if you plan to ride Reach the Beach on Saturday, May 17, know that the event is a non-club event ride that will be approved for club miles, and there are separate registration fees and fundraising required to participate on event day.
A big THANK YOU to Ronda and Cary for taking this on. It’s a long tradition and can serve as an introduction to our club and what we have to offer.
