Toppled Talk -Portland Bicycling Club

Toppled Talk

We have had a good year of cycling, so let the festivities begin!!! The club’s annual awards banquet is scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2023. Socializing begins at 5:00 PM, and dinner starts at 6:00 PM, with awards to follow. Enjoy a casual evening of fun with your cycling friends: witness the club awards presentations; collect your mileage pins, mugs, and plaques; and, most importantly, see who the recipient of the coveted Old Fart award will be!

The banquet will be held at the Monarch Hotel, with convenient onsite parking. The theme will be When It All Started. There will be music from 1971 like Three Dog Night’s “Joy to the World” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver. ♫♪♫♪♫♪ If you have specific song requests, please send them to newsletter@PortlandBicyclingClub.com by Wednesday, January 25. I’ll be wearing my favorite outfit from the 70s. Feel free to come in 70s apparel, dress up fancy, or wear your most comfortable jeans.

Once again, we will have individually plated dinners rather than the buffet line. The Monarch has raised their prices by nearly 50%, but the board has decided to forgo door prizes and use club funds to subsidize your dinners so that prices will remain at $30 each, tip included. The menu choices this year are steak, salmon, and gluten-free vegetarian morel “meatloaf.” You will be asked to submit your meal choice when you register. Please log in to the website and purchase your tickets early from the club’s online store (under the tab at the top that says “Store”), or click on the link https://portlandbicyclingclub.com/product/banquet/, so that we can get an accurate head count for planning and room rental arrangements. Contact Cindy Bernert-Coppola at webmaster@PortlandBicyclingClub.com if you need help signing up.

Registration closes Sunday, January 22, at 9:00 PM.

Mileage mugs and plaques will again be optional this year. Let Corey know as soon as possible at coreybike@comcast.net or 503-641-2971 if you don’t want to receive a mug and/or plaque.
