Help Us Cross the STP Finish Line: Volunteers Needed

By Lynn Thompson Blanchard, STP Volunteer Coordinator

Volunteering for the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic is genuinely fun and exciting. It’s a chance to work side by side with other club members, meet new people, and be part of the energy of 6,000+ riders rolling into the Portland Finish Line the weekend of July 11-12.

As a volunteer, you’ll receive:

  • A colorful STP souvenir volunteer T-shirt
  • A free meal with every shift
  • All the beverages you want while you work
  • An invitation to our volunteers-only pizza party at Flying Pie Pizzeria on Monday, July 6.

We are down to the last 14 open positions, and signups have stalled. Here’s how you can help:

  1. Can you take one of the remaining shifts? Even a partial shift helps. Truly, 2 hours, ¼ shift, or “some” hours makes a real difference. For example, we don’t want Kurt Minges covering Safety Team Leader all day Saturday and all day Sunday. If you can give him even a small break, that would be huge.
  2. Can you help with the most urgent vacancy? We currently have no one for Return Bus Transportation on Saturday evening – no team leader and no team member. This job is simple and important: take tickets from riders boarding the bus back to Seattle and hand each rider a bottle of water. That’s it. Will you step in?
  3. Already volunteering? If you’re able, taking a second shift would help us tremendously.
  4. Know someone who could join you? Bring a friend, partner, or riding buddy. Working together makes the time fly.
  5. New to the club? Don’t hesitate. We’ll teach you everything you need to know. Every position is beginner friendly.

If you can help, even for a short window, please email me at [email protected]. Thank you for supporting the Finish Line and helping us make STP a great experience for every rider.
