Help Us Cross the STP Finish Line: Volunteers Needed
By Lynn Thompson Blanchard, STP Volunteer Coordinator
Volunteering for the Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic is genuinely fun and exciting. It’s a chance to work side by side with other club members, meet new people, and be part of the energy of 6,000+ riders rolling into the Portland Finish Line the weekend of July 11-12.
As a volunteer, you’ll receive:
- A colorful STP souvenir volunteer T-shirt
- A free meal with every shift
- All the beverages you want while you work
- An invitation to our volunteers-only pizza party at Flying Pie Pizzeria on Monday, July 6.
We are down to the last 14 open positions, and signups have stalled. Here’s how you can help:
- Can you take one of the remaining shifts? Even a partial shift helps. Truly, 2 hours, ¼ shift, or “some” hours makes a real difference. For example, we don’t want Kurt Minges covering Safety Team Leader all day Saturday and all day Sunday. If you can give him even a small break, that would be huge.
- Can you help with the most urgent vacancy? We currently have no one for Return Bus Transportation on Saturday evening – no team leader and no team member. This job is simple and important: take tickets from riders boarding the bus back to Seattle and hand each rider a bottle of water. That’s it. Will you step in?
- Already volunteering? If you’re able, taking a second shift would help us tremendously.
- Know someone who could join you? Bring a friend, partner, or riding buddy. Working together makes the time fly.
- New to the club? Don’t hesitate. We’ll teach you everything you need to know. Every position is beginner friendly.
If you can help, even for a short window, please email me at [email protected]. Thank you for supporting the Finish Line and helping us make STP a great experience for every rider.
