RTB Training Rides
We are about one month away from kicking off the Reach the Beach training series! Hopefully, you’re getting as excited as we are. Our first ride will be on Saturday, March 7, which may seem so far away, but yet it is right around the corner. You may be feeling a little anxious as the season approaches. No worries, we are in this together. Rides will be regroup rides; nobody gets left behind. We will stop at different points to regroup, and your ride leaders are here for support. Training rides are posted on the ride calendar. You may be wondering, “How in the world do I prepare for these rides?” Here are a few recommendations that have helped me in the past:
- In the time leading up to these rides, slowly try to increase mileage. Look at the ride calendar and pick rides that are within your speed group and mileage distance. Also, if you’re able, ride to and from organized rides. Time in the saddle is key.
- This is a great time to try out different refueling approaches. What worked previously may not work now. Don’t wait until event day to try something new. ✎
- Sometimes finding out your correct hydration needs as well as refueling is trial and error.
Don’t forget electrolytes. Always carry more than you think you’ll need. If you run low, your body will tell you. I know this from experience.- Dress appropriately for the weather.
- Please, please bring everything you need to fix a flat. Other riders will offer assistance if needed.
- Ask other riders for advice about anything and everything. We are more than happy to help you out. Knowledge is power!
You may be thinking, “I really want to participate in these training rides, but I’m not planning to do the event.” Come participate in the training rides even if you won’t be riding on event day. Rides are always open to everyone: PBC members and non-club members, RTB participants and non-RTB participants.
If you have any questions about these training rides, please feel free to reach out to your Reach the Beach ride leaders.
