To Pioneer or Not to Pioneer?
Once again, our club finds itself without a coordinator for our own event, the PIONEER CENTURY®. Is this a ride we want to continue? Let’s pull together some volunteers and get this in motion. Keep reading for contact information.
Sponsoring a big bicycle event ride is not easy. Just getting a date that works can be difficult. Fortunately, we have Doug Myers being all proactive and securing a date for us. Historically, the date for our PIONEER CENTURY® is the first Saturday of June. The Sawtell rest stop was not available on the 6th of June, as Doug learned. The local fire department was once again doing some training up along Sawtell Road…Sawtell Road being a key component to our ride. Therefore:

✎ Pioneer Century® is really an awesome annual event. It’s hard for members to commit to volunteering when it means missing the beautiful, well-marked, rural (bucolic) route and the challenge of Sawtell Hill. But it is also an opportunity to help your club and have a great time hanging out with other club members while supporting other cyclists. Sometimes you’re the rider, sometimes you’re the volunteer helping others.
Doug, as noted, has gotten some of the fundamentals done for us. We have some volunteers ready and willing to do some more of the preliminary work. We can do this!
However, we do not have a Coordinator – someone to take the lead and work with the team to pull it together. We do not have a Volunteer Coordinator – someone to promote volunteerism and run SignUpGenius to organize the volunteers. We need to get our registration up and running so we can offer a reduced rate now to early registrants and raise the cost as the date draws closer. There is a team. This is not a one-person burden but a club effort. However, people do need to fill slots now for preliminary planning and setups.
