Columbia Gorge: Get Up Close & Personal – See it by Bike!

Announcing the Jim O’Horo Memorial Columbia Gorge Explorer, May 24-27.

Are you tired of watching the Columbia Gorge go by in a blur? Try enjoying it at 10 MPH on your bike!

Combine your love of cycling with your love of travel! Dip your toe into the world of bike touring by trying a short, four-day Memorial weekend outing through the beautiful Columbia Gorge. Low cost (just $25 for the three nights of camping) and low risk (you can always have your buddies pick you up if it’s not your thing). Newbies especially welcome (and experienced bike tourers, too!)

The Jim O’Horo Memorial Columbia Gorge Explorer will take place from Friday through Monday, May 24-27. We will leave Vancouver on Friday and travel east for two days through Stevenson, White Salmon, Lyle and Maryhill. Then we will cross the Columbia River at Maryhill/Biggs Junction into Oregon and return through the Dalles, Rowena Crest, Hood River, Cascade Locks, Multnomah Falls, and other points along the Historic Columbia River Highway.

We will camp each night, and participants will carry all their gear on their bikes. Food can be purchased along the route or packed with you. There is no SAG (Support and Gear) vehicle, and riders should be prepared to cycle 60 miles a day at their own pace on a fully loaded bike. If you haven’t done it before, maybe it’s time to give it a try! We are happy to talk to you about it if you aren’t sure. We hope you will join us!
