Your Club at Work

FINANCES

Board member Dave McQuery broached the subject of generating more interest with the club’s cash assets. You can get more information (on all these matters) in the January 2023 board meeting minutes.  ✎  However, the outcome was this report from Corey, our treasurer, on January 24:

“I transferred $15,000 from the WF Operating account to 2 CD’s. One is for a 7-month CD maturity date 8/24/23 for $5,000 at 3.44% interest rate (3.5% APY), and one for 13 months 2/24/24 maturity date for $10,000 at 3.68% (3.75% APY). This leaves about $52k in the operating account.”

PIONEER CENTURY® COMMITTEE

Another recommendation that came up in January’s board meeting was to have the members at large help Doug coordinate the Pioneer Century® this year. Doug did a phenomenal job last year and pulled this event of  ✎  ours out of the grave, resuscitated it, and got it back on the summer ride rotation, working mostly alone and persistently. While Doug is very capable, a little assistance will keep him closer to sane and invigorated.

The committee consists of Alan Mevis, Doug Myers, Dave McQuery and Richard Higgins. Alan encourages all members to contribute.

MARKETING PORTLAND BICYCLING CLUB

Our new president, Mark Barnes, wants to see PBC grow and wants to see us marketing our wonderful club. Nothing has been given a green light yet, but under discussion are: stickers to put on bikes to publicize our  ✎  name; T-shirts to wear around hither and yon; building our “store” with jerseys, T-shirts and/or caps; and encouraging members to carry and pass out club business cards.

PROPOSED NEW POLICY

PBC has policies, which you can view after logging in to our website, which guide us in our decision making. A new policy is proposed to allow our card-carrying club members the right of first refusal for any  ✎  volunteer positions. There are times when club members cannot or will not volunteer for a particular role. For example, at STP we have high school students come in and do hard labor. We cannot. We used to but no longer can. So, we pay someone. But as a practice, we do not want non-members managing our volunteer roles. The board determined that a policy regarding that philosophy should be drawn up.
