Your Club at Work

Jonathan Maus, in his BikePortland blog, shared a story of his cleanup of the Bryant Street Bridge on Twitter and I tweeted back that we Portland Bicycling Club members ride a bazillion miles in Portland and will help if a cleanup day is organized. I have frequently shared with our club the efforts of Vancouver Bicycle Club on the northern end of the Glenn Jackson Bridge. Note, cleanup may entail trash, natural debris such as leaves and branches, and cutting back bushes and trees. I’ll keep you posted!

The Yahoo Group listserv which we mostly used for late-breaking news, ride shares, and interesting bike-related information has gone away. Yahoo pulled the plug on that platform, and it no longer functions as we want it to. The board determined that the Facebook page, PBC Group, will now serve that purpose. Please join the group to remain informed beyond what the Quick Releases can provide monthly.

February’s board meeting (2/6) brings the opportunity to suggest non-club rides that members can participate in for club mileage. The intent is to encourage the mileage-hungry cyclists to venture out and explore the area with other clubs and organizations. The ride leader must also do their best to get club member participants’ mileage for the statistician. Let any board member know before the February meeting what rides you want to earn PBC mileage.
