You Are Invited: PBC Banquet

The annual PBC Banquet will be on Thursday, February 5, 2026. We will celebrate the cycling season of 2025. At the time of this writing details for the meal have not been confirmed, so registration is not open yet. Never fear, a sign-up will be posted online as soon as possible, and we will let you know. Meanwhile, make a note on your calendar so you save the evening of the 6th.

The banquet will be at the Hilton Garden Inn Clackamas, formerly the Monarch Hotel, near Clackamas Town Center. More information will be forthcoming.

A part of the banquet will be the presentation of awards, both serious and humorous. Right now, in the month of December, you should take a few minutes to think of who qualifies for some of the awards (see Final Plea for Award Nominations). There is specific criteria for eight of the awards, so consider that as well. Who qualifies for some of these awards? Share your nominations as directed in the AWARDS article, and also be sure to express WHY you have nominated the club member. You should be ticking off all the boxes as you tell us about your nominee.

An awards committee, comprised of former recipients of the Jim Mooney Member of the Year Award, will gather to consider your submissions. Decisions will be made. Presenters will be chosen. Awards will be ordered.

In addition to the eight awards that are presented yearly, if you don’t see an award category that suits your nominee, feel free to make up an award – which doesn’t require nominations. Have fun with it. Or be serious. The objective is to acknowledge our wonderful club members who have excelled at volunteering or just made our little club more enjoyable to be a part of. It just takes a little time and effort, and the club will reimburse you for the cost of the award. You will just need to let Corey Eng, the awards committee chair, know about your award so that it gets added to the agenda. You have the option to present the award yourself or have an award presenter from the awards committee do it.

Of course, there will also be mileage awards (login required). As of the end of November, there were 121 club members who had already earned their lapel pins for completing 500+ club miles in 2025, and 4 more who only have about 20 miles to add to their total before the end of the year. There are 45 who will be receiving a pin and a coffee mug for completing 2,000+ club miles, and 3 more who are short 30 miles or less.

The banquet is really a perfect introduction to a lot of people you may read about in the newsletter, or see listed as ride leaders on our calendar, but you don’t know. The awards presenters usually give a brief profile of the nominees, so you get a nice background of some of the club members. Additionally, you will have time before and after the program to socialize. You will be seated at a table with other members whom you may or may not know. I assure you that you will get to know them better, and they will know you better, when the celebration ends.

The banquet is always a lot of laughs along with sincere praise for our hard-working club members.

Dress as you please. There is no dress code. Dress up, dress down. Wear what you find comfortable.

You will need to register in advance and pay for part of your meal, and the club will subsidize a part of each meal. I’m sure you’ve all had parties or dinners where you asked for an RSVP and there were few responses. Then people show up expecting dinner and there really isn’t enough to go around. It’s unpleasant and embarrassing. Don’t procrastinate. Don’t be the guests who do the walk of shame begging to be seated at a table and fed.

Again, the club will subsidize your evening out, so there will be some out-of-pocket expense, but in today’s world, the meal you will enjoy will be a bargain. There will also a no-host bar, so you can also partake in a beer, glass of wine, or cocktail as you visit with the other guests.

Please register for the event when the opportunity arises. Be forewarned, if you don’t attend, you will probably have regrets when you listen to all the other club members talking about the fun time they had.

Oh, and remember, the banquet takes the place of the February club meeting. It’s actually on meeting night, so don’t go to the church!

PLEASE – come and join us.
