Pioneer Century® Event Coordinator Needed

I know that you expect me to yammer on about irrelevant things before getting to the topic of concern, but for those of you who look forward to the yammering, this will be a disappointment, since I will get to the point after this first sentence.
The Point(s):
1. WE NEED AN EVENT COORDINATOR NOW, but more of that in (item 4). It is sad, but true that the Pioneer Century® will have to be cancelled if no one volunteers to be the Event Coordinator. There is not much time left before the board will have to decide whether to hold the event or not.
2. We have a date and a template:
nna. The Date: Saturday, June 7, 2025, and Doug Myers has negotiated and secured the locations for the Start/Finish and the rest stops. NOW, June 7 may seem like a long way off, but it isn’t unless you want to create this event in a blind panic and not adequately promote it.
nnb. The Template: The 2025 Pioneer Century® will be like last year’s, so you won’t have to reinvent the wheel, but you will need to put new tires on it and make it go around. ✎
3. Why do we care about the Pioneer Century®?
nna. The Pioneer Century® is a moneymaker for the club and that means that it helps subsidize the food and awards at the awards banquet, snacks for meetings, occasional pizza feeds associated with occasional gatherings such as ride leader workshops and event volunteer thank-you parties, donations to worthy cycling-related organizations/causes, public bike racks with our club name proudly displayed, and a bunch of things I’m not mentioning.
nnb. The Pioneer Century® is positive community outreach directly attributed to the club and has been receiving positive reviews from riders. The attendance has been growing and seems to be developing momentum.
nnc. The Pioneer Century® has a long history as the club’s signature event and only skipped a beat during the worst of Covid.
nnd. Volunteering to make this event possible means that you are directly supporting all that the Pioneer Century® means and does.
4. The Planning Committee needs a lot of time to, well, plan and should be actively engaged by this time, but no one has stepped up to make this happen (except possibly the rest stop coordinator). THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IS THE EVENT COORDINATOR and that position needs to be filled before the committee can begin work. The Event Coordinator assists with recruiting to fill the planning committee positions (necessary to spread the workload enough to make this a manageable effort for everyone involved), leads the process from beginning to end, and ensures that all of the tasks are being performed in a timely manner.
5. Planning Committee Positions, FYI:
nna. Event Coordinator
nnb. Rest Stop Coordinator
nnc. Volunteer Coordinator
nnd. Local Jurisdiction Coordinator
nne. Promotional/Marketing Coordinator
nnf. Sponsorship Coordinator
nng. Route Director
Please contact Rob Schroeder at [email protected] if you are interested in being the Event Coordinator.
