PBC Elections

The December club meeting on the 5th will include the election of the 2025 executive board. Some current board officers have expressed a desire to serve another term, and others would like to step down. However, this does not mean any incumbent can’t be challenged.
All positions are available except for the member-at-large seats held by Gary Lunsford and Maria Sworske, and the road captain slot held by Rob Schroeder. Those positions will be filled in June. This little tactic prevents an entirely new board from having to step in on January 1; there will always be at least three experienced board members remaining.
We definitely need a recording secretary. Jan Oestereich has served this past year and has done a fantastic job keeping us informed about club activities and decision making. She has advised us that she is resigning. Scott Ticknor is also stepping away after being one of our members at large in 2024. He kept us aware of safety issues as the seasons changed.
Please 1) contact me at [email protected] or call 360 608-3173 if you would like to run for office, 2) come to the December club member meeting to both a) place or accept nominations from the floor, and b) vote and share in welcoming our new executive board. ✎
Being a board member will not be burdensome. Most board position job descriptions are self-explanatory by the title. If you have a question about the job duties, ask the incumbent and read up online here: Meet Your Executive Board Officers (includes photos with names, titles, and list of responsibilities). Serving on the board is a great way to get involved with the club and help steer the ship, or bike (peloton) as the case may be. You will get a better perspective of how the club operates, get to know many more club members, and come to appreciate some of the behind-the-scenes activity that moves the club along. You can do this! As a bonus, the board determined that Zoom for the monthly board meetings was the way to go, and so you don’t even need to leave home on the third Wednesday of each month.
I think we have a talented board, and they are serving the club well. New ideas, fresh approaches, and higher energy levels are always appreciated when other members want to assist. Discussions are civil and respectful as information is shared and decisions made. It’s a team effort. As noted, most of our board members are willing to serve again. Our vice president, Richard Higgins, moved away a few months ago, and Michelle Kirsch has been filling that position as an appointee. She is graciously offering to run for the office for 2025.
The list of candidates so far is Ann Morrow for president, Michelle Kirsch for vice president, Corey Eng for treasurer, Dave McQuery for membership secretary, Todd McCollum for road captain, and Kim Hutchinson for member at large. Positions for recording secretary and one member at large are still open.
Additional nominations from the floor will be accepted on the date of the election, Thursday, December 5. All candidates shall be elected by a plurality of the total votes cast for each office. If, however, a candidate is running unopposed, the members present may choose to elect that candidate by unanimous acclaim.
Thank you for your consideration.
Ann Morrow, President
