Banks-Vernonia State Trail Maintenance
Your club has done impressive work over the last year on the Banks-Vernonia State Trail. Last year, club members put in almost 100 hours, mostly fixing potholes, and we have had three workdays in July this year. Your club’s $5,000 donation helped repair the worst bridge on the entire trail.
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will have a large presence on the trail (mostly the hiking and mountain bike trails in and around L. L. Stub Stewart Park), and we will have only one workday in August. On Thursday, August 29, we will start at 8:00 AM at the Stub Stewart Visitor Center. We would sure like to make it a productive day, so, if you have any interest, please contact me at 503-720-4946 or [email protected]. It’s important to know how many folks are coming out so we can plan the workday and make sure we have enough tools for everyone. We realize this is a weekday, so not everyone can help, but the trail is just too busy on weekends for serious work to be done. ✎
For those of you familiar with the trail, you will be thrilled to know that the very worst part of the trail (the part through the open meadow at about mile 4.5 to mile 5) has been totally repaved, and ALL the bridge approaches between Banks and the park itself have been fixed.
