June 2021 Top Talk

In an age of monarchs with absolute power, the founders of our nation shocked the status quo by establishing a democratic republic of the people, by the people and for the people. This new concept offered its citizens extensive new rights. In order to function, it also required of its citizens new responsibilities.

Our club functions in a similar way. We offer a variety of rides for our members, informative meetings, social functions, and services to the bicycling community. In order for this to occur, members need to be active in the organization.

During our June meeting, the PBC will hold elections for several board positions:  in the club who wants to emerge from their winter cocoon and welcome the spring on their bike. I look forward to seeing you on the road.

  • Both road captain positions are open, although Rob Schroeder, who has done an excellent job, is willing to continue in his position and guide a new road captain. Todd McCollum has volunteered to be elected.
  • After performing exemplarily, Cindy Bernert-Coppola has stepped down as the membership secretary, leaving that position OPEN. It involves processing the applications from new members, maintaining our membership records, and reporting the membership status to the club.
  • Two positions are open for members at large, who primarily function as liaisons between the board and the members. They also oversee the safety policies of the club. Alan Mevis has stated that he is willing to continue in this role but might be ready for a break if someone else is interested in running. Dave McQuery is running for the other position.

The board meets for an hour prior to the club meetings each month. Sometimes there are interactive discussions by email between meetings. The responsibilities that our members fulfill by serving on the board make possible the privilege of being club members.

Contested elections are a hallmark of healthy organizations; nominations will be accepted up until the time of the election. If you feel that you have something to offer, don’t be shy! It’s your chance to give something back to the club you love!
