Pioneer Century

Thank you to all of the participants and volunteers who supported the 2018 Pioneer Century. As has often been stated, the Pioneer is and continues to be a prideful event for the Portland Bicycling Club family. Individuals come together to fulfill a common goal of presenting one of the more enjoyable and satisfying event rides in the region. Our volunteers give of their time, expertise, and more than a wee bit of sweat equity. By all observations it was a safe day, a satisfying day. Once again, our sincerest thanks for supporting the Pioneer. Lastly, our event photographer, Rohith Gunawardena, along with “that Hammer guy,” cobbled together some images and tunes which shine a light upon this recurring 1st Saturday in June cycling event.

The Pioneer Century is on hiatus. A restructuring and rebranding effort of the event, is being explored for 2020 and beyond.

ABOUT THE PIONEER CENTURY

The Pioneer Century is named to reflect the history of the Champoeg, Canby, and Molalla areas. The ride starts from the Clackamas County Fairgrounds – 694 NE 4th Avenue, Canby, Oregon. Rich farmland and timber brought the pioneers to this area and this same beauty draws cyclists today. The Pioneer Century offers great routes whether you seek a social ride or personal best.

A testimonial from one of our 2017 Pioneer Century riders:

“I finished the Sawtell metric century yesterday. I went for it, after all that complaining and procrastinating.  Naw. Just wanted to tell you I did it, thanks for the support and communication about it all. I’m proud, tired and sore, and looking forward to my next ride. PS I sure was impressed with the organization of the ride and the great route markings. Take care. Maybe see you down the road.”
