STP Volunteers Requested

Submitted by Corey Eng, 2019 STP Volunteer Coordinator

With the Pioneer Century on hiatus this year, let us double down on our volunteerism at the Kaiser Permanente Seattle to Portland presented by Alaska Airlines, taking place on the weekend of July 13 & 14, 2019.

As you know PWTC sets up, runs, and takes down the finish line at Holladay Park. PWTC welcomes all finishers to Portland at the finish line announcers’ stage. We help riders safely cross the finish line, receive their congratulatory patches, and enjoy the finish line festivities.

We install/(remove) all course signage from the Longview Bridge to the finish line. We restrict traffic around Holladay Park, and place all the required signs warning the public of these closures. We unload and sort rider’ baggage and help them find and retrieve their proper belongings. We staff the temporary secure bike corral and rent out towels at the shower truck. We help load riders on buses and get their bikes safely blanketed on trucks for the return trip to Seattle. We answer all sorts of questions at the information booth. If there is something to be done, you can bet a PWTC or Skyview High School volunteer is tending to it.

Volunteers will receive a colorful tee shirt to identify them as volunteers for STP and a food voucher to redeem at the many food vendors. Of course, there is that pizza party the Monday before the long weekend, too.
